Last night the red carpet rolled out to celebrate the 2014 American Music Awards—the biggest fan-voted awards— hosted at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. Pitbull was first to step out as the host for the second year in a row. Mr.305/ Mr. Worldwide cracked jokes and serenaded the crowd in Spanish as well as performed his chart-topping hits with R&B artist Ne-Yo.

Britain invaded last night with huge wins from boy-band One Direction, Charlie XCX, and Sam Smith. The boy-band doesn’t have to worry about anyone “stealing their girl,” winning artist of the year, favourite pop/rock album and favourite band, duo, or group in the pop/rock category. Charlie XCX performed her hit single Boom Clap, and Sam Smith performed, I know I’m Not the Only One—walking away with the award for favourite pop/rock male artist.

The Brits didn’t just dominate the stage; they also dominated the red carpet. The most classically stunning woman has to go to Kate Beckinsale, 41, who wore a gown by Kaufman Franco and “Tribeca” sandals by Brian Atwood.

Fergie Ferg stepped… no strutted… on the red carpet, and on stage. Singing her new single of her highly anticipated album—the first in eight years—L.A LOVE (LA LA) the new mom came back with a bang. She donned a sleek black thigh high dress with strappy Versus stilettos.

Another style winner who never ceases to disappoint on the red carpet was Selena Gomez. The beauty wore an open back Giorgio Armani Prove black dress. The 22-year-old also performed, The Heart Wants What it Wants, an emotional tribute to her on-again, off-again boyfriend Justin Bieber. Taylor Swift showed her BFF some love cheering her on.

T-Swift sang her newest single, Blank Space, off her fifth album, which debuted last week selling over a million copies. Swift played up her crazy obsessive boy behaviour setting a rose on fire during her performance. The talented young artist received the prestigious Dick Clark Excellence Award from his wife. Clark said in a statement, “Since the first time I saw Taylor perform, I knew she was something special.”

Another big winner was Iggy Azalea, taking home the award for favourite rap/hip hop album for, The New Classic, and favourite rap/ hip hop artist; beating out Drake and Eminem. The Aussie sensation performed her hit, Fancy and accompanied JLo with some booty.

Azalea was humble and appreciative of her first award from her mentor T.I.,“ This award is the first award I’ve ever won in my entire life, and it means so much to me that it is for best hip-hop because that’s what inspired me to move to America and pursue my dreams, and it’s what helped me when I was a teenager to escape and to get through my life and to better times,” Azalea said, adding, “It’s what helped me as a teenager to escape….Thank you so much for T.I. for believing in me.”
