Leave it up to Chelsea Handler – the no-nonsense late-night TV talk show host to change the landscape of late-night TV. It was announced last week that the comedian/late-night talk show host will be leaving E! Network after seven years of calling the network home for her show ‘Chelsea Lately’ and has inked a deal with Netflix. This is a very smart move on Netflix’s part as well. The subscription based online service uploads their content all at once – seasons of shows at a time. It will be interesting to gain an audience for them on a weekly basis.
Netflix spokeswoman, Karen Barragan, said that the scheduling plan for the show had not been decided but that as “a topical talk show” it would not follow the previous Netflix pattern of posting all episodes at once. Going on to mention; the show can be described as “in the style of a late-night show,” if not produced on a late-night time schedule.
The as of yet untitled show will air on Netflix in 2016, but fans of the comedian, shall not fret. Handler will be bringing stand-up specials to Netflix, beginning with one based on her latest book; “Uganda Be Kidding Me”. Next year, Netflix will offer four different documentary-style comedy specials with Handler.
