It’s not that often that a newly debuted TV show (let alone sitcom) peaks our interest and has an immediate impact on us that we feel the need to write about it. But then again, they’re always exceptions to the rule . . . .

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ is TV’s hottest new sitcom. It’s the lead in for FOX’s smash hit, ‘New Girl’ and stars former ‘SNL’ alumni Andy Samberg. It’s a new take on the cop format and we’re loving every minute of it. Andy Samberg’s character; Detective Jake Peralta, is a talented but childish detective whom seems to be vying for the admiration of his newly appointed commanding officer; Captain Ray Holt. The show is cleverly written and uses a flash-back style format at times. The important thing to note with this format is that, and this is very important. . . .  they don’t overuse it. A lot of shows that had this element in the past seemed to use it as a crutch and became boring and predictable. ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ cleverly inputs the flashback scenario and even at times when you wouldn’t even consider it. The show is fresh and new and feels different from any other comedy on TV at the moment.

‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Official Promo

When we started watching ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ we were immediately drawn in by the ensemble cast of characters. All are extremely different and bring their own comedic genius to each scene. The characters grew on us very quickly, which in any format, is extremely hard to do. How can you not get drawn in by characters like these:

-Andy Samberg as Detective Jake Peralta, a talented but childish detective who is driven daily by the admiration of his Captain.

-Andre Braugher as Captain Ray Holt, the 99th Precinct’s strict new Commanding Officer. The Nine-Nine is Holt’s first command despite many years of outstanding service, something he attributes to prejudice against him being gay. He has a husband, whose name is Kevin.

-Stephanie Beatriz as Detective Rosa Diaz, a smart, tough, and mysterious detective.

-Terry Crews as Sergeant Terry Jeffords, the detective squad’s leader. He previously worked with Holt at another precinct where he was overweight and was given the nickname “Terry Titties”. He also suffered a breakdown of sorts a year prior to the show’s beginning during which he “lost his edge” and any desire to work in the field. He has twin baby girls named Cagney and Lacey, a reference to the classic police procedural show Cagney & Lacey.

-Melissa Fumero as Detective Amy Santiago, Jake’s uptight and overachieving partner.

-Joe Lo Truglio as Detective Charles Boyle, a nervous, clumsy but honest and hard-working detective who has a crush on Detective Diaz. He is divorced from his wife, who had numerous affairs during their marriage.

-Chelsea Peretti as Administrator Gina Linetti, the 99th Precinct’s sardonic civilian administrator.

We’re going on record by giving ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ title of “TV’s Hottest New Comedy”.  You can catch the show Tuesday nights 8:30pm EST  on FOX.
