Today, MLSE (Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment) held a special news conference at the Air Canada Centre, which is home to the NBA’s Toronto Raptors and the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.

It was officially announced that the city of Toronto will be hosting the 2016 NBA All-Star game. This is an amazing accomplishment for the city of Toronto as it will be the first time the All-Star game will be held outside the United States. Not only was that major announcement made, but it was also revealed that Drake will be the Toronto Raptor’s “Global Ambassador” where the Toronto born rapper will be consulting with management on the look and feel of the Raptors brand, as the team begins a two-year rebranding process, which will also see new tam colours and logo.

As part of the partnership with Drake, MLSE President and CEO Tim Leikweke said the franchise is considering fashion, food and film co-branding opportunities. He also added that one of the reasons why the team was interested in Drake is the way he “preaches the gospel” of Toronto as a first-rate global city.

What are your thoughts on Drake becoming the “global ambassador” for the Toronto Raptors? Have your say, let us know in the comment section below.
