2013 SAG AWARDS: COMPLETE RECAP

SAG Awards

Last night marked the 19th Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards live from Hollywood. The SAG Awards is a night to honour excellence in both the small screen and big screen, with movies and TV stars coming together under one roof. The awards show doesn’t have that stuffy feel like the Oscars does, it has more of a Golden Globes, relaxed feel, and those watching at home could certainly tell as the actors/actresses present were very social, relaxed and most importantly, were having fun.

Many stars such as Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway were nominated but it was Ben Afflleck who stole the show, as his movie “Argo” took home the award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Motion Picture. The movie upset “Lincoln” and “Silver Linings Playbook” to win the award.

Jennifer Lawrence won for Outstanding Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in “Silver Linings Playbook”, solidifying herself as a Best Actress front-runner. Tommy Lee Jones won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for “Lincoln” and Anne Hathaway won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for “Les Miserables”. Looks like all signs point to Oscar for the young actress.

On the TV side of things, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey won respectively for their work on “30 Rock”. Baldwin capturing the Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role” and Fey for “Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role”.  “Modern Family” won for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series (and rightfully so, may we add). Other TV winners included “Downton Abbey” for Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Drama Series, upsetting “Mad Men”, “Breaking Bad”, “Homeland”, and “Boardwalk Empire”.
