ICONIC MASONIC TEMPLE CLOSING

After 95 historic years, the iconic Masonic Temple in Toronto is set to close its doors, with MTV Canada moving their studio to 299 Queen Street. The concert hall has seen historic performances by Fran Sinatra, The Ramones and Led Zeppelin just to name a few. The building may shut its doors and be turned into condos.Bell Media has confirmed that they are “considering all options” for the famed concert hall.

According to the City of Toronto, the Masonic Temple was added to the list of heritage sites in March 1974, which protects some historical aspects of the building, including the facade and some interior features. In 2006, the building became home to MTV Canada and ceased being a concert venue. However, musicians would play the temple, so there was still the very important musical tie-in.

What are your thoughts of the iconic temple closing and possibly becoming home to more condos in the city of Toronto? Would you rather see the building be transformed into something else? Still have a musical tie-in of some sort? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
