The man who introduced the world to rock n’ roll in the fifties has died today. The one and only Dick Clark, the man who created ‘American Bandstand’ suffered a massive heart attack and has passed away at the age of 82.

Dick started his career as a radio DJ and thought to himself, wouldn’t it be great to get paid and have a job playing records? Little did he realize that one simple thought would change the course of the world pop culture, as we know it.

‘American Bandstand’ went national after only five years of being on the air in the Philadelphia market. Soon acts like Michael Jackson and Madonna were dropping by the show to sing their newest hit singles, promote their albums and most importantly converse with Dick himself.

Without Dick Clark there wouldn’t be shows such as ‘American Idol’ and the landscape of the world of pop culture would be extremely different from what we’ve come to know and love today.

God Speed to a true pioneer.
