Ricky Gervais was back as host of the Golden Globes and started the show off on a great note. The first words uttered out of his mouth were: “Where was I?” At first when Ricky hosted the show, in 2009 critics bashed him calling him too controversial and in poor taste with a lot of jokes he had made. Now, it seems the show is best known not for which show, movie or actor won which award but instead, for Ricky’s low-brow humour and cheap shots at many of the celebrities in attendance. It seems that many people turn into the awards show just to see what he’ll say, but many were disappointed of just that last night.
Obviously, any awards show focuses on the movies, actors and TV shows nominated and that’s what the Golden Globes did as well. However, this was a sour note to many viewers, as they wanted to see more Ricky throughout the broadcast. It seemed like Ricky’s sharp-tongues one-liners became less effective throughout the night. Viewers didn’t; need to worry though; as soon, their laughs would be coming from the presenters and nominees as opposed to the host himself.
By far, the funniest moment of the night came from the one and only Tina Fey – and she didn’t even say anything! The moment happened when the nominees for “Actress in a TV Series, Comedy” were being announced and the camera cuts to Amy Poehler, as she was nominated for her work on “Parks and Recreation”. In those 5 seconds, fellow “Saturday Night Live” star Tina Fey decided to photo-bob Amy, which got a hilarious reaction both from the celebs on hand and from the viewers at home, as Twitter became bombarded with people tweeting about that one moment over anything else that happened throughout the show.
As seen by clicking the link below, another hilarious moment of the night was thanks to actor-comedian, Seth Rogen. The funny man was on stage set to present an award with the stunningly beautiful Kate Beckinsale when he told the world that he was trying to conceal a massive erection. Who wouldn’t be standing next to Kate? Link:http://www.thehollywoodgossip.com/videos/seth-rogen-massive-erection-joke/
Two huge positives for the show for us, was seeing Jessica Lang winning for her portrayal of Constance in “American Horror Story”, George Clooney winning for his work on “The Descendants” and seeing Matt LeBlanc win for his new show “Episodes”. All in all, to us, the show and Ricky Gervais did not live up to the hype. Regardless, in a room with a vulgar host, and celebrities drinking the night away, there are bound to be some sort of mishaps, and we would like to thank CBS for showing it all. Well most of it.
