BIG BROTHER CANADA’S TALLA: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
May 23, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
She was the little girl from Edmonton with a bigger than life personality in the ‘Big Brother Canada’ house. Whether it was drunken nights, war of words with other house guests or mini-meltdowns, it seemed like Canada couldn’t get enough of the little firecracker; Talla.
In this exclusive interview Talla opens up about her time in the house, her favourite moment in the game, who got on her nerves, her “attraction” to Topaz, what she believes was the biggest mistake made throughout her game play and of course, all the drama that went down on finale night.
Congratulations on earning a key to the ‘Big Brother Canada’ house! Is it safe to say that there was a lot of screaming when that happened?
Yes there was so much screaming, I’m still screaming!! Can you believe I made it?!
How would you best put your ‘Big Brother Canada’ experience into words?
The Big Brother experience for me was the CRAZIEST experience ever. Best time of my life ☺
What was the hardest part about living in the house with a group of complete strangers?
The hardest time living with strangers was having to get used to other people’s house “etiquette”, I usually found myself cleaning, and doing more dishes than I’m used to haha!
Who got under your skin the most in the house?
I can’t say that any one got under my skin…I care about each houseguest, and I’m so thankful to have met them all ☺
Was there one special person in the house that you felt extremely close to and could let your guard down when you were with him/her?
There were quite a few I got super close with, like Gary, Topaz, Jillian, A.J., and Andrew.
Was there anybody in the cast that was able to get under your skin easily or just rubbed you the wrong way?
I’m sure my antics got in the way for some, but I enjoyed every minute with each house guest.

Talla hosts her own show “Talking with Talla” as part of a task Marsha The Moose assigned her during the season.
Talla, you gave Canada many, many, many (did we say many?) memorable moments throughout the entire season. For you, what is one moment that you will always remember?
Day 53, when I got a video message from my family and friends, the Freeze challenge, and day 58, my “Talking with Talla”, and DAY 59, meeting DAN GHEESLING! Love it!
It seemed like you were attracted to Topaz just as much as any other person in the house. LOL. We had fun watching your drunken antics, but are there any that you regret or are you comfortable with all that went down?
HAHA! Topaz and I had lots of fun, but my moment with the “Sass in the Glass Party” where I may have peed in the hot tub, was not my peachiest moment. HAHA!
In your eyes what was the biggest “fail” throughout the season?
The biggest FAIL was Emmett a.k.a the MILKMAN not keeping me to move forward to Final 3. Then Gary did me a favour and voted him out…hahha FAIL ☺
We loved watching you screaming during “The Evil Dead” movie with Jillian and Andrew. How great was it watching the movie and being able to unplug from the game?
I was soooo happy when Andrew picked us, and all I thought was “Oh wow! Andrew has no idea how much he’s going to regret this since his ears are going to bleed for a year” . It felt good for that time to not be BUSY gaming, scheming, plotting, and having a meltdown for a little bit, just a little. As soon as the movie was over, I was like “k… BUSY time for some mayhem”
Some viewers labelled you as a “floater”. To clarify, a floater is someone who latches on to another alliance or person and rides their coat tails until the end, which clearly you didn’t do. Do you believe your likability got you as far as it did in the game?
That’s interesting you say that, because a floater to me is someone who throws competitions and tries to sneak by and get carried through, I DIDN’T throw anything, no one could have a 1-9-1-99999 situation like I did by floating! I think my personality and my “charm” kept me in, and also aligning with Andrew, Jillian, and Emmett when the perfect time came ☺
How amazing was it to be visited by ‘Big Brother’ Winner and All-Star Dan Gheesling and did that give you a second life in the house?
BEST MOMENT was Dan walking into the door, he was one of the six I was hoping to walk through, think he was like the first I said I was hoping for. Talking with him put some things into perspective for me, and we bonded over playing football (well throwing the ball). I will NEVER forget that day! ☺ Just talking to someone who is, to me, the MAN of ‘Big Brother’ . . . I mean that was EPIC!
You were in the Final Four which is a huge accomplishment, and were very close in possibly being in the final three. Do you believe Emmett made a mistake in voting you out?
Getting as far as I did WITHOUT winning a single competition, and being on the block 4 times back to back, and not winning a POV to save me is out of this world, and YES Emmett should have chosen me. When he said that he was working with Gary from the beginning, I didn’t believe him really, and just thought, he must be out of this world if he thinks he could beat Gary in the Final 2 because Gary would have all the votes. Plus, giving me Dan’s bracelet would NOT have got me to vote for “The Milkman” if it were him in the Final 2 with Jillian or Gary.
Lastly, we have to ask about the drama that went down during the special live season finale. What was going through your head when you heard host Arisa Cox state that Topaz had voted for Jillian to win?
When Arisa said Topaz had voted for Jillian, all I’m thinking is . . . FAIL TOPAZ!! I asked her if she misunderstood what she was supposed to do, and she said NO, and I’m like, well you should tell people you did, because that was a FAIL! You’re so used to casting your vote to evict people as opposed to someone winning the grand prize, so I feel bad that happened, but everything happens for a reason ☺
What is the best way for fans to stay connected to you now that the show has wrapped?
Well my twitter is @Talla_87, and I will be starting my YouTube channel right away, and I will keep everyone posted, And there is a fan page for me…so tweet me ☺

It seems like before we know it, it’s summer time again in the beautiful city of Toronto. Sure that means hot muggy days, long summer nights, “construction season” and mosquitos but that also means it’s MMVA season!

SETH MEYERS NAMED NEW ‘LATE NIGHT’ HOST
May 13, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
It was announced earlier this year that Jimmy Fallon (host of ‘Late Night w/ Jimmy Fallon) will be replacing Jay Leno as host of ‘The Tonight Show’ when Leno retires next year. Once this was announced, the question that kept on emerging was: “Who’s going to replace Jimmy as host of Late Night?” Well, the question has been answered.
Seth Meyers, head writer on ‘SNL’ and anchorman of “Weekend Update” (the mock news show on ‘Saturday Night Live’) will be taking over for Fallon, as host of ‘Late Night’. Lorne Michaels who created ‘SNL’ is also the producer of ‘Late Night’, so everyone can see where the tie-in is, and we couldn’t agree more! Seth has proven he can deliver jokes, monologue or sketch comedy style, and to have a late night platform to be able to deliver his own content will be nothing but hilarious.
Meyers responded to the news, in true comedic fashion: ”I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totalled his car,” Meyers quipped. “12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice.”

BIG BROTHER CANADA’S PETER: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW
May 11, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
Up next in our edition of ‘Big Brother Canada’ House Guest interviews, we’ll be talking to the wrestling loving, somewhat diary room yelling, and masterminding co-founder member of “The Sheyld”; Peter!
In this exclusive interview, Peter let’s us in on his strategy of playing the game, who he would have trusted besides Alec, which alliance he felt could have run the entire game, being compared to ‘Big Brother’ royalty Chill-Town, and of course his infamous comments to Jillian on finale night.
First off, congrats on being part of the inaugural season of ‘Big Brother Canada’! What was the whole process like being chosen as a contestant before entering the house and at any time, how surreal did it feel?
Thank you so much, it was truly a privilege to be a part of the first season of “Big Brother Canada.” I expect the process of getting selected is much like being accepted to Hogwarts, full of magic. The entire experience was surreal, being in the house was so overwhelmingly amazing it’s hard to put into words.
As we all know, you’re a big fan of the game. How crazy was it receiving a key confirming you would be one of the first house guest on the inaugural season of ‘Big Brother Canada’?
I’ve seen every American season, so receiving my keycard to enter the house felt incredible. Once it truly hit me that I’d be going in I finally allowed myself to be excited.
What was your strategy before entering the ‘Big Brother Canada’ house and did it change once you stepped foot through the front door?
My initial strategy was fairly simply: make people happy and say “Yes” as often as possible. I knew I had to find someone to trust unconditionally and be the person others needed me to be, not the person I wanted to be. My strategy didn’t change the entire game from the one I outlined before entering.
Living in a house with complete strangers can have some ups and downs (mostly downs). Which houseguest(s) got on your nerves the most and why?
For me the transition to living with 14 other people wasn’t too difficult. We all became a family really quickly, like any good Canadian would. In the beginning it was easy to avoid certain annoyances by just moving to another room where there would be a different cluster of people. At one point or another I’m sure that everyone got on my nerves, but I can easily find something positive to say about all of them.

Peter and Alec talk game in the diary room, and let Canada in on what “The Sheyld” has in store for the rest of the house guests.
On the flip side, we all know you were very close with Alec in the house, but was there anyone else besides him that you feel you could have made a strong two person alliance with and trust in a final two scenario?
I honestly felt close to Emmett for the entire game, and had Alec not been in there I really think Emmett would have been my go-to guy. Also, had I gotten to Liza earlier than I did then I think we really could have done some damage, but by that point Quattro had formed and her ‘nomance’ with Tom was already in full stride.
Early on in the season we saw the formation of Quattro – an alliance consisting of Tom, Emmett, Alec and yourself. Did you ever feel in your heart of hearts that the four of you could possibly have made it to the final four?
I really think that Quattro could have run the entire game, but Tom began making impulsive and irrational decisions which meant he had to be dealt with, but, had that not happened, there wasn’t anything that really could have stopped us.
We saw you get a little close to Liza in the house, how different do you feel your alliance could have been with her if Tom’s insecurities didn’t get in the way/between you two?
I felt a very strong connection to Liza on both a personal and game level, and I think that if it wasn’t a double eviction night she would have stayed and we would have been able to do damage control on the perception of her in the house, but, she was too close to Tom and the relationship between her and I was difficult to maintain publicly because of that.
You getting close with Liza in the house, was that all gameplay/strategy or was there some emotions starting to bubble up?
I immediately recognized Liza as someone who saw the game in much the same way I do, so aligning with her was a rational decision. However, game aside, I did form a personal relationship with her, which I honestly didn’t expect to happen within the house, and I wish we would have had more time together in the house.
“The Sheyld” has to be one of the greatest ‘Big Brother’ alliances in the history of the game (including US version too of course). Fans have even compared you and Alec to Boogie and WIll – previous winners and all-stars of the game. During DR’s, comps, throughout the game, did it ever feel that way for at least a moment, or did that not even cross your mind?
Alec and I formed the fastest alliance in the history of the game, haha, it was literally our first conversation, and we sincerely appreciate any support we get. “The Sheyld” certainly come from the “Chill Town” school of Big Brother, and we both idolize Will Kirby. We didn’t want to outright copy them, but, they had an unbreakable friendship and so did we, plus, we’re all guys who understand the game and like to have fun with it, so it’s an absolute honour to be mentioned in the same breath of those gentleman.
“The Sheyld” was formed to bring an end to injustice in the ‘Big Brother Canada’ house. Do you feel like yourself and Alec accomplished this goal?
No, unfortunately we didn’t. We wanted to steal the game, and then when that couldn’t happen anymore, we wanted to steal Jury… Which also didn’t happen, haha. Whoops.
In the “SAY YES” challenge, where you were given the task to eat a salad, to give readers an idea, exactly how hard was it for you to actually finish it?
I have a lot of issues when it comes to food. I don’t try new things, it’s very difficult for me, but I knew I didn’t want to be on Slop for another week and I didn’t want any of the other House Guests to be on it either. I kept telling myself that if I wanted to eat later I had to eat this now, but what helped the most was Topaz, Alec, and Emmett encouraging me through it.
The night you were evicted, before leaving the house, you sat on the stairs and said a cryptic-like poem to the house. What did it mean and what were you hoping the others would take away from it?
I knew if I was ever evicted I wanted to leave in a way that was truly unique, instead of the tired old hugging routine. I had to fake a lot of humanity in the house, and I wanted to show the remaining House Guests that there was an entire other side of me that they hadn’t met in there. I was always completely honest in the Diary Room, and I aimed to find “the real me” within the house, but, in the end, that confession meant nothing.
On finale night, your question to Jillian was a loaded one, right before you called her an idiot. Do you feel as though she wasn’t deserving to be in the final two situation and could a strongly worded/crafted answer from her have swayed your vote at all?
Jillian is a great person, but we have very different philosophies when it comes to Big Brother. My objective with the question was to make it initially jarring and then actually have substance. I know how Jill reacts in just about every situation, so I had to ensure she would stumble and fumble through the question, which she did. Had she simply told me something to the effect of “I’m in the end because I lied and backstabbed all of you and I did it with a smile on my face,” then I would have voted for her.
If you could have changed one thing in the game (excluding yourself being evicted of course) what would it have been and why?
The Instant Eviction ultimately began the downfall of “The Sheyld”, and had we been able to talk for a few minutes with Topaz, then Andrew would have went and the game would have been drastically different, but, Alec and I had run the scenario previously about what we would do in that situation, and, whether you believe it or not, we’re men of our word.
Finally, now that ‘Big Brother Canada’ has wrapped what is the best way for fans to stay connected with you and will you be documenting your experience in any way on your You Tube channel? (Plug away sir, plug away).
I will continue to be very active on social media. You can follow me on Twitter (@alsopeterbrown) and, yes, I respond quite often, even to haters. I will also resume my YouTube channel (youtube.com/theparkerjakobowhitz) where I’ll share some of my thoughts on Big Brother and other current events. Alec and I will also likely be doing a “Sheyld Show” to discuss the upcoming American season of Big Brother as well. So, I’m not going anywhere, and there may be big things on the horizon but… House Guests are not allowed to talk about Production.
‘GREY’S ANATOMY’ PICKED UP FOR 10TH SEASON
May 10, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
Not many shows live to see 8 seasons, let alone 10, but when they do, you can bet that it isn’t by fluke. As of today, you can add the TV drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to that prestigious list.
Creator Shondra Rhimes tweeted today, that the show has been officially picked up for a historical tenth season. The show was in limbo a couple of years back, with contract negotiations/talks but as some characters have been written off, new interns entering the hospital, the show has found a new life. Writing has never been more intriguing, nail-biting, joyous and funny. Which is very rare to have all of those elements in a dramatic medical drama and written in cleverly, may we add.
With a lot of great TV shows being cancelled by networks due to live ratings being too low (even though digital/PVR are high) it’s refreshing to see a network stand behind their content.
Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursday nights at 9PM EST on abc.

‘TRUE BLOOD’ SEASON 6: OFFICIAL TRAILER
May 7, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
Usually summer means most TV shows go on hiatus or are completed and most likely will return in the fall, but an interesting trend has been occurring as of late. TV shows have been premiering in the summer. Why you ask? It’s quite simple, less clutter on the tube, means your show (if gained interest by viewers) will most likely be a ratings success. Years ago, this rang true with HBO’s ‘True Blood’. The show has garnered a cult following and has been a mega-successful show fr the network from the very beginning. Besides, who wouldn’t like an interesting plot (vampires trying to co-exist with humans in present day Louisiana), sex, drugs and drama, lots and lots of drama.
‘True Blood’ is back for Season 6 this summer, and it looks like a war is brewing. In this official trailer from HBO, it looks like humans have finally had enough of the vampires (and the wolf pack as well for that matter) and are looking to be the sole race on the planet.
We told you there was drama!
Check out the preview below for all the craziness like on ‘True Blood’ can deliver. The show returns for Season 6 June 16 at 9PM /8C on HBO.
FULL MCBAIN MOVIE HIDDEN THROUGHOUT ‘THE SIMPSONS’

The Simpsons still remains one of the longest running weekly episodic tv programs of all time, and with a reason like this, no wonder it has been celebrated around the globe.
McBain is an Arnold Schwarzenegger-like hero whose ongoing movie clips show up periodically throughout ‘The Simpsons’. What you may not know is, that if you put the clips together, it actually created a mini-movie with an actual relevant story line.
Don’t believe us? Check out the clip at GAWKER’s blog. Trust us, for Simpsons fans everywhere, it’ll be worth the watch.
‘BIG BROTHER CANADA’: THE DRAMATIC FINALE
May 3, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
The ‘Big Brother’ game motto for years (in the US) has been; “Expect the Unexpected” and that definitely rang true with last night’s inaugural ‘Big Brother Canada’ season finale. A mistaken vote by a juror saw the crowning of the first ever ‘Big Brother Canada’ winner (by mistake). We’ll get into that a little later on in the post, but first we have to tell you what brought the final two contestants together.
The final HOH competition was a three parter, with the first competition being all about endurance. Each contestant (Emmet, Jillian & Gary) had to balance on an air-filled type resistance balls, while balancing a bucket of blood (really red paint) propping it up with a large metal like pole. The first winner of this round would sit comfortably until the final round as the first two contestants to be eliminated would face each other to see who goes on to the final third round/HOH competition. Jillian was the first to lose balance, causing her paint bucket to drop. Her time was just over an hour. Gary was not so quick to follow. Although he was the second eliminated from this round of the competition, he lasted a remarkable 4 hours plus! Emmet wins the first comp, advancing to the finals. The second part of the HOH competition saw an obstacle course in a carnival style theme. (one thing that we can say about this first season is that all the competitions were very well done). Everyone assumed this may have been Jillian’s strong suit as she is more active and fit than Gary, but nobody should ever under-estimate Gary’s “Power of Glitter” as he beat Jillian with the shortest time, allowing him to advance to the final HOH competition against Emmet.
The final round of the HOH competition was a quiz based game (as it always is). However, Emmett and Gary were neck and neck both being tied with answers, until Gary came out on top, beating Emmet in the final round. It was then time for Gary to evict a player of his choosing. “Gary Glitter” did what was best for his game, voting out Emmet and bring Jillian to the final two with him, as he knew he would most likely get the jury votes over her. In the game of ‘Big Brother’ however, nothing is ever as it seems . . .
Arisa Cox introduced the jury members, and they were all able to ask a house guest of their choosing one question before casting their votes of who they wanted to see WIN the game. (Perhaps, Topaz should have been paying more attention to this crucial rule of the game when host Arisa Cox mentioned it several times). The only jury question which was remotely entertaining was from Peter, calling Jillian “Villian” and asking why she should win the game without using Emmet or competitions as a crutch in her answer. Jillian seemed flustered and not very cool under pressure, stating a strong social game as the reason for her to win, although she did mention competitions on numerous occasions in her answer, it was done while yelling almost at the top of her lungs.
After Arisa introduced the other house guests which were evicted early on in the game, and getting their perspectives on the season, it was time for the jury to vote live as to who they wanted to see win ‘Big Brother Canada’. Usually in the game of ‘Big Brother’ house guests vote to evict, as to who they don’t want to be in the house anymore. Looking at the jury and playing the numbers game it was safe to assume that Jillian had three votes locked in (Emmet, Andrew and Talla), but what the audience wasn’t ready for was a mistake made by a jury member, which ultimately crowned the ‘Big Brother Canada’ champion by mistake! When host Arisa Cox was revealing the keys as to how each jury member voted, shockingly when she pulled out Topaz’s key, she had cast her vote for Jillian. Immediately Topaz raised her hand in disbelief, saying the vote was wrong and even arguing that her vote must have been switched or changed by someone. In the game of ‘Big Brother’, cameras are always rolling, so after taking a commercial break to get everything back on track, footage was replayed showing Topaz locking in her key to vote for Jillian, which was a shock because Gary was her best friend in the game. Obviously this was a massive mistake on Topaz’s part as in her mind, she was most likely voting for who she wanted NOT to win (as she has been used to evicting someone from the game). Perhaps she should have paid more attention during her time locking in her vote instead of claiming her vote was 150% secure and playing for the cameras (mocking Jillian in the process).
Here’s how the votes from the jury members officially went down:
- Emmett voted for Jillian
- AJ voted for Gary
- Talla voted for Jillian
- Alec voted for Gary
- Topaz voted for Jillian (by mistake)
- Peter voted for Gary
- Andrew voted for Jillian
Topaz’s vote single handily cost Gary the grand prize and handed the winnings over to Jillian. Now, we must state that Jillian did play a good game, she made big moves. Sure she lied a lot and went back on her word, but this is ‘Big Brother’ and it is expected. There’s no doubt that she was deserving to be in the spot she was, but to win the game by a jury member’s mistake is rough. Her win will forever be tarnished, Gary in the process was robbed of the grand prize and quite simply, Topaz will forever be known as the girl who was the deciding factor in crowing the first ever winner of ‘Big Brother Canada’ – majorly screwing up in the process.
One thing is safe to say, this season has been full of twists, surprises and drama. Even in recap shows, we were entertained. Not once did we ever change the channel or were on our smart phones finding other forms of entertainment. Some fans have criticized the game with everything from production blunders to host mishaps, but we have to admit, we were hooked from the very beginning and no matter what people say (everyone is entitled to their own opinions) the inaugural season of ‘Big Brother Canada’ delivered in every possible way. SLICE (the network ‘Big Brother Canada’ airs on) saw a huge ratings success with the show as well, holding a captive audience with millions tuning in three times a week. Sure the finale outcome was not what anyone was expecting and we believe the wrong person had won, but it is what it is and the first-ever season of ‘Big Brother Canada’ is now in the books.
What were your thoughts of last night’s finale and the season as a whole? What was your favourite moment in the house and who was the most entertaining to watch? Let us know in the comment section below.
KANYE WEST APPEARING ON ‘SNL’ FINALE

Controversial rapper and Kim Kardahsian’s baby daddy; Kanye West has been confirmed to appear on the Saturday Night Live (‘SNL’) season finale on May 18th. Kanye has been booked as the musical act for the show, with Ben Affleck hosting.
Last time Kanye performed on ‘SNL’, some lyrics were changed due to vulgar content. I wonder if any Kim K jokes are off the table the night Kanye will be in studio? or if Kanye will be as outspoken as he usually is? Only way to find out is to tune into the ‘SNL’ finale, 11:30PM ET, May 18th on NBC.
MTV DEVELOPING ‘SCREAM’ TV SHOW
April 26, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
It wasn’t long ago that we had blogged about MTV possibly developing a ‘SCREAM’ TV show and as of today it looks like the network has been given the green light to begin developing it. For the moment, MTV will be creating a one-hour pilot, but if ordered into a series, the show will then be tapped for a summer 2014 release.
Wes Craven, who directed all four ‘SCREAM’ films was contacted to help bring the pilot to life, but there is no word yet on a writer. Creator Kevin Williamson. who wrote Vampire Diaries and The Following may to be busy with each show respectively, but since his plans to create a brand new ‘SCREAM’ trilogy has fallen through, perhaps the take on the franchise may be right up his alley.
We have our thoughts as to how this TV pilot may be written but we have to ask; will it be pre-Woodsboro High (before the original ‘SCREAM’) being introduced to a possible young Ghost-face killer, or do the events of the pilot take place in present day post ‘SCREAM 4′?
As fans of the movie franchise, we can’t wait for this special one-hour pilot and will definitely have more information as it becomes available.
Are you excited for a possible new take on the ‘SCREAM’ franchise? Let us know in the comments section below.
‘THE FOLLOWING’ SEASON FINALE PROMO: THE FINAL CHAPTER
April 26, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
It was just this past March that we posted about our favorite new show ‘The Following’, starring Kevin Bacon and Shawn Ashmore and we dubbed it as TV’s “Hottest new thriller”. The suspense/thriller TV drama is also created by ‘SCREAM’ creator Kevin Williamson, and has just the right amount of gore, creepiness, and edge of your seat excitement to keep us coming back for more. That’s why it’s hard to believe that this coming Monday will be the shows season finale, appropriately titled “The Final Chapter”.
Check out the promo below. SPOILER ALERT for fans that aren’t completely caught up this season, do not watch this promo, unless you want to find out the horrific events which have occurred to some of our most liked characters.
The season finale airs Monday, April 29th 9PM EST on FOX.
‘DEXTER’ SEASON 8: FIRST LOOK
April 25, 2013 By popgoescultureblog Leave a Comment
Showcase released the first cast promotional picture for the upcoming eighth season of ‘Dexter’, which coincidentally will be the series finale.
That’s right, season eight will be the show’s last. Rumors have been flying as to how the show will actually wrap. Will main characters die? Will Dexter finally be caught?
The promotional picture doesn’t help these rumors as it looks like everybody in the picture looks upset or disgusted in a way with Dexter. Plus, notice the blood splatter analysis lines are emanating from Dexter’s body??
What do you think will happen in the final season? Let us know in the comment section below.
“The End Begins” June 30th 9PM ET/PT on Showcase.
